A wonderful collection of consolation music from the Baroque era.

...With round, stretchy voice, Engeltjes sings well-known solo cantatas like Ich habe genug. Guest soloist and bass Andreas Wolf provides contrast with Ich will den Kreuzstab gerne tragen, in which death appears as the brother of sleep. But surely the most moving are the non-Bach tracks. Forerunner Buxtehude wrote a phenomenal Lament With pulsing strings and embalming organ. And dab the eyes but after that four-part song by Bach's great uncle Johann Christoph. 'Good night, world, the grains of my hourglass have run out.'
