PRJCT Amsterdam is a young baroque ensemble around countertenor Maarten Engeltjes, founded in 2017. The ensemble is formed by a permanent core of young, outstanding baroque musicians. PRJCT Amsterdam stands for imaginative programming and world-class concerts that bring a fresh slant to baroque music. Artistic director Maarten Engeltjes always seeks to collaborate with other experienced, internationally established top musicians, as concertmaster and/or soloist.
In September 2017, the ensemble presented with great success its first project: Stabat Mater by Pergolesi, in collaboration with the writer P.F. Thomése. All performances received extraordinarily positive press. In the fall of 2021, PRJCT Amsterdam garnered much praise with program "If Music be the Food of Love" with Andreas Scholl, including concerts in De Doelen, TivoliVredenburg and sold-out venues at AMUZ Antwerp and Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ Amsterdam. The tour was followed up at the end of 2021 by "Virtuoso!", with worldly cantatas by Antonio Vivaldi and gems by Monteverdi and Cavalli. For the coming years, PRJCT Amsterdam has a host of plans, ranging from CD recordings and various concerts to greater projects in which not only music but also other aspects of the baroque period play a role. World stars such as Andreas Scholl and Rolando Villazon will be taking part.
PRJCT Amsterdam recorded its first two albums with the prestigious SONY Classical label. The first album 'Forgotten arias' was released in February 2019 and the album CD 'Nicht Mehr Hier' was released in 2020. Both albums were very well received by the national and international press.
