Extra concert with Andreas Scholl on 28 May 2020

Because the concert If Music be the Food of Love, songs en duetten van Henri Purcell by counter tenors Andreas Scholl and Maarten Engeltjes together with PRJCT Amsterdam on 22. May 2020 at the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ in Amsterdam was sold out in no time, there will be an extra concert on Thursday 28. May 2020. Buy tickets for 28. May.

CD-recording "Nicht mehr hier"

Immediately after the Nicht mehr hier concerts three intensive days of recording followed, in the former conventicle of the Old Catholic parish in The Hague. With Karel Bruggeman and Jean-Marie Geysen of Polyhymnia the musicians unremittingly laboured on the recordings for the new CD, that will be released by Sony Classical in early 2020.

A fan e-mailed Maarten:

…This fall I heard your concert ‘Nicht mehr hier’ in the Muziekgebouw. Never have I heard a more beautiful concert than on that evening… Full of hope I surfed to your site to see if a recording of the concert could be ordered. But alas. Can you let me know if a recording will ever be made? I ardently hope that it will.

We will keep you posted!

"Nicht mehr hier"

The first big project of the current season (2019/2020) is now behind us: Nicht mehr hier, with music by Bach and Buxtehude. On October 6, even before de rehearsals began, Maarten and the continuo-section, gave a small foretaste on the tv-program Podium Witteman with Buxtehude’s Klaglied.
On October 8 and 9 rehearsals took place in the former conventicle of the Old Catholic parish in The Hague – a hidden jewel on Juffrouw Idastraat with wonderful acoustics and a Garrelsorgel with two keyboards; much gratitude to custodian Ton Kappelhof!

The Bach project Maarten and his good friend Andreas Wolf (base/baritone) have dreamed of for so many years materialized in four fantastic concerts, concluded on October 13 in the Muziekgebouw aan het IJ in Amsterdam, that was all but sold out.

Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ chooses Maarten Engeltjes as 'soul mate'

On 28 February 2019 the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ published its complete program for the  2019-2020 season. At the same time it was announced that Maarten Engeltjes will receive a wildcard as ‘soul mate‘. He will have the opportunity to program five concerts of his own choice (see below).

Virtuoso! postponed due to illness

Due to illness of Maarten Engeltjes the concert in Nijmegen on 22 February 2019 had to be terminated prematurely. The concert planned for 24 February in Eindhoven has been postponed. For both concerts a new date will be announced as soon as possible. Those who have already ordered tickets will be informed by the venues.

Album release Forgotten Arias

On Monday 18 February, Sony Music presented the CD Forgotten Arias, Maarten Engeltjes’ first album with PRJCT Amsterdam. This was reason for a small party to which everyone involved was invited on the 12th floor of the A’dam Tower high above the IJ in Amsterdam.

The album is available in our webshop (for Dutch and Belgian customers), at Amazon, iTunes and Spotify.

CD recordings in Grote Kerk Elburg

The Grote Kerk (Main Church) in Elburg, where Maarten Engeltjes gained his first musical experience as a four-year-old in the boys’ choir, is known for his exceptional acoustics. On 5, 6 and 7 December the church was converted into a recording studio for the first CD of Maarten Engeltjes & PRJCT Amsterdam. Three super-intensive and strenuous days for all musicians, and a special experience for those who have not experienced such a recording before.
The CD will be released at Sony Classical in February 2019. The details will only be announced at the presentation, but it concerns at least some arias that were part of the Forgotten Arias concerts in Antwerp, Amsterdam and Haarlem in early November.

After the Forgotten Arias concerts

It’s over, a extended of intensive rehearsals and three fantastic concerts in Antwerp (7 November), Amsterdam (9 November) and Haarlem (11 November)! We look back on three successful concerts, in well-attended halls – the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ was almost completely sold out. We proudly read the first review byMartin Toet in the magazine for opera lovers Place de l’Opéra. His conclusion: “… Bach boring or long-winded? This enchanting concert was the perfect antidote to such delusions …”. We wholeheartedly agree – we enjoyed it!

Read the reviews: Martin Toet at Place de l’Opéra and Winand van de Kamp at Haarlems Dagblad.

Friends of Maarten Engeltjes & PRJCT Amsterdam

After the Forgotten Arias concert on 9 November in Amsterdam, a festive gathering will take place at the Foyerdeck of the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ to mark the start of the Vriendenstichting Maarten Engeltjes & PRJCT Amsterdam. This Foundation of Friends was established this summer with the aim of supporting the ensemble under Maartens leadership. A number of ‘First Friends’ invited their own relations, known to be interested in music, to this concert. We hope this will help increase the number of Friends. If you consider becoming a Friend, do come to the Foyerdeck after the concert on 9 November!
