Wonderfeel 2x

Maarten Engeltjes & PRJCT Amsterdam performed twice during the fourth edition of the classical music festival Wonderfeel in the open air at the Schaep and Burgh estate in ‘s-Graveland.

On the evening of Friday 20 July, het Veld filled up with the crowd for a spectacular program with hits by Vivaldi and Handel. Absolute top hits: Vivaldi’s Nisi Dominus (with Cum dederit) and Handels Scherza infida. The entire concert was broadcast live on national public radio (NPO radio4) and can be heard here (als part 6).

On Saturday afternoon, Maarten sang songs by Monteverdi and Purcell with the continuo section of PRJCT Amsterdam. Here too, blazing enthusiasm in the tropical so-called Orphanage of the Hits. As an encore Handels Ombra mai fu was sung.

Engeltjes ends both concerts in style with Handel’s hit-aria Ombra mai fu, the hymn of Persian King Xerxes on a plane tree. On the grass a ten-year-old girl is gently swaying in time with the music… “
