Founded in 2017 by Maarten Engeltjes, PRJCT Amsterdam has quickly become one of Europe\u2019s most distinctive period instrument ensembles.<\/h3>\n

The ensemble combines historically informed performance practice with dramatic vitality, stylistic refinement, and an unmistakable theatrical instinct, and collaborates with many of today\u2019s celebrated vocal artists, including Julia Lezhneva, Rolando Villaz\u00f3n, Andreas Scholl, Sandrine Piau, Jeanine De Bique, Carolyn Sampson, and Valer Sabadus.<\/p>\n

The first project, \u2018A Mother\u2019s Tears\u2019\u2014which included Pergolesi\u2019s *Stabat Mater* and was created in collaboration with writer P.F. Thom\u00e9se\u2014led to a sold-out Concertgebouw in 2023. The program \u2018If Music Be the Food of Love,\u2019 featuring Andreas Scholl, also garnered widespread acclaim, with concerts at De Doelen, TivoliVredenburg, and sold-out performances at AMUZ Antwerp and Muziekgebouw aan \u2019t IJ in Amsterdam.<\/p>\n

PRJCT Amsterdam regularly performs at major European venues, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Tonhalle in Zurich, the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Flagey in Brussels, De Doelen in Rotterdam, and the K\u00f6lner Philharmonie, as well as at numerous leading festivals throughout Europe, including the Bachfest in Leipzig and the Th\u00fcringer Bachwochen. Recent projects have spanned a wide repertoire, from Handel\u2019s Brockes Passion and Bach\u2019s Easter Oratorio to Purcell\u2019s *If Music Be the Food of Love* and Mozart gala programs featuring Rolando Villaz\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

The ensemble recorded its first two albums for the Sony Classical label: \u2018Forgotten Arias\u2019 (2019) and \u2018Nicht Mehr Hier\u2019 (2020), followed by the critically acclaimed Pentatone recording *Stabat Mater: A Mother\u2019s Tears* in 2023. Praised for performances that combine transparency, expressive immediacy, and meticulous attention to text and dramaturgy, PRJCT Amsterdam creates interpretations that are both historically informed and vividly contemporary.<\/p>\n
