Alon Portal | double bass & Viola da Gamba

Alon Portal (Israel, 1990) started his musical education at the Music Academy in Jerusalem and went on to study at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.  In 2015 he completed his education on the viola da gamba with Mieneke van der Velden and Philippe Pierlot. Besides the viola da gamba he studied the violone and the (historical) double bass with Margaret Urquhart.

Alon collaborates with well-known conductors and ensembles, including Ton Koopman, Peter van Heyghen, Patrick Cohen-Akenine, Symphony Atlantique, Ensemble Odysee, Dutch Baroque, Circulo Bach and Barrocade Ensemble. He performed at festivals in the Netherlands (Oude Muziek Festival Utrecht, Bach Festival Dordrecht) and beyond (AMUZ, Potsdam Sanssouci, Eilat Chamber Music Festival, Abu Gosh Festival and elsewhere).

In addition to his position at PRJCT Amsterdam, Alon is a co-founder of Le Concert d’Apollon, specialized in French baroque music, and he plays at Concerto Foscari, a young company from Hanover.
